And then you realized it wasn't so bad! Today we learned how to add and subtract fractions, and it was pretty easy. Here are the five steps:
1) Do a factor tree for the denominators
2) Find the LCD
3) If you change the bottom, change the top
4) Add or subtract (borrowing if necessary)
5) Simplify.
SO, here's an example.
2/6 +4/9
6=2*3
9=3*3
LCD= 3*2*3= 18
2/6= 6/18 4/9=8/18
6/18+8/18= 14/18
14=2*7
18=2*3*3
Crossing out the 2s leaves us 7/9.
